Dork in Disquise
Before starting at a new middle school in a new town, Jerry decides
to be a cool guy and prepares all summer by studying teen magazines,
watching music videos, and distressing his jeans. Things get off to
a good start. But eventually Jerry gets tangled up in a complicated
web of lies and begins to wonder if he can really be a dork in disguise
forever.
From the Publisher
This year, at a new school in a new town. Jerry's decided to start
a new life altogether -- as a Cool Guy. He's been preparing all summer:
Studying teen magazines, watching music videos, and distressing his
jeans. Things get off to a good start, but before you know it, Jerry
finds himself tangled up in a complicated web of lies: what's more,
he's battling a terrible urge to put his glasses back on, join the science
team, and, worst of all, date Brenda, a one hundred percent geek. Does
he really want to be a dork in disguise forever?
Annotation:
Jerry Flack, a sixth-grader at Nathaniel Hawthorne Middle School, wants
to stop being a dork and hang with the cool crowd. In an effort to go
from dorky to extra-super-cool, he stops wearing his pop-bottle glasses,
wears hair gel, and makes up stories about meeting famous people. But
soon he really misses being geeky and wants to go back to his old ways,
but does he dare turn into a colossal dork again?
