Question: What is a hovercraft skirt?

The hovercraft skirt is the part that allows the hovercraft to clear obstacles. Skirts are typically made from a rubberized fabric or vinyl coated nylon material. The higher the skirt the larger the obstacle that the craft will clear. If the skirt is too tall the craft will 'slide off' the cushion of air and the cushion will deflate or the craft will become extremely unstable. There are several types of skirts in today with the most common being the bag skirt, the segmented skirt, and the jupe skirt.
